Riding the Rails in Harmony: Reflecting on 10 Years of Singing Hobos
Every September, as the whistles blow and the steam locomotives chug to life for Railway Days at Heritage Park, our quartet looks forward to riding the rails. For ten incredible years, we have had the absolute privilege of boarding those historic trains and performing as Singing Hobos, trading our polished corporate suits for patched flannel jackets, newsboy caps, and charcoal-smudged cheeks to bring four-part harmony to the rails.

Having officially celebrated our milestone 10-year anniversary of performing at the park last year, our journey looks a little different this season as we will unfortunately not be performing at this year's Railway Days event. While we will deeply miss the chug of the steam engines and the smiles in the passenger cars, taking this brief intermission gives us a wonderful chance to look back on a decade of beautiful memories.
How Our Journey Began
Our history as the Singing Hobos started over a decade ago when Heritage Park wanted to expand its immersive "Hobo Camp" and historical railway exhibits. They needed an entertainment act that could blend into the early 20th-century atmosphere without modern stages, speakers, or messy electrical cords.
As a completely acoustic, "plug-and-play" vocal group, we were thrilled to step up to the plate. We fell in love with the characters instantly, stepping into the shoes of friendly, wandering Great Depression-era travelers who carried nothing but our bindles and our voices.

Harmonies on a Moving Train
Performing on a live, moving steam train has been one of the most unique and rewarding challenges of our musical careers. Instead of standing on a traditional stage, we got to stroll right through the passenger cars, singing nostalgic tunes and traditional barbershop harmony just inches from the passengers.
It wasn't always easy! We quickly learned how to balance on swaying train floors, project our voices over the loud chug of the steam engine, and time our final chords perfectly around sudden whistle blasts. Over ten years, those challenges became part of the comedy, the charm, and the magic of our show.

Sending Best Wishes to Heritage Park
The park holds a deeply special place in our hearts, and we want to send our warmest well wishes to the wonderful staff, dedicated volunteers, and energetic visitors for an amazing Railway Days weekend! We highly encourage everyone in Calgary to go out, support the event (September 19-20), and experience the incredible displays of steam-era history.
For now, our Singing Hobos are just resting their feet by a campfire somewhere down the line, remaining hopeful that we can pack our bindles and bring our 4-part harmonies back to the Heritage Park trains again in 2027.

The Music Keeps Rolling
In the meantime, our music has not stopped! We are busy performing year-round, bringing our signature blend of vintage charm, character comedy, and elite vocal harmony to corporate events, private parties, and public festivals across Western Canada.
